Order Checklist The more detail and planning that can be provided upfront makes for a smoother manufacturing process. The interactions between fabric, seams, cushions, frame and spring system construction, juxtaposed against the end-desired look, creates many variables. Wood furniture is equally complex. Wood choices, veneer options, finish choices, environmental and usage patterns, all need to be considered for the final design. Moving forward with manufacturing without all of the components being decided on can move a project down a path that precludes certain options. Our furniture designers take all of your input to create your drawings. That input plus the final drawings go into the builder’s production packet to provide as much information as possible for a successful project. Here are items to consider being included in your order packet to facilitate the smoothest manufacturing process. Photos and sketches- Include photos and sketches that inspire the desired look. This can include an arm from one photo, a leg from another. Anything that will help the furniture designer and builder understand the desired end look. Wood choice- the wood should be decided early on and in conjunction with the finish, environmental conditions and usage patterns. Every wood has pros and cons and should be decided on early on to make sure that the piece will be sturdy and the desired finish can be obtained- i.e. It is hard to get a mahogany finish if you start with oak. Finish choice-needs to be made in conjunction with wood choice and usage patterns. Samples can be matched. Dimensions- Custom pieces can vary 1-2” in size depending on fabric thickness and padding choices. If a piece has to fit under or into a tight space please note in order packet. We can make sure that the maximum size is not exceeded. Delivery issues- Items can be made KD- knock down- if needed to fit through doors or tight turns. Please note potential install issues in order packet and construction technique options can be discussed. Railroading fabric- must be specified in writing. Fabric knap run and seam location- Builder will use best judgment unless other wise noted in order pack. Certain fabrics are temperamental and require certain stitches and seams to work. Leather/Vinyl/Ultra suede – Breather panels on back cushions are standard. Cushions are not reversible. Leather typically makes cushion sit more firmly. Quilting- Add 15% to COM for quilting. Add two weeks to production time Fabric Backing -All Chenille fabric with any pile on the reverse side requires backing to prevent stretching and to stop the cushion fabric from rolling on the cushions. -Taffetas and silk fabrics require light-knit backing to prevent staple and machine needles from causing runs in the fabric. The backing process may cause plaids or horizontal strips to become askew. In that case we suggest selecting a different fabric. -All loosely woven fabrics require knit backing to prevent the padding from working its way through the fabric. -Fabrics with a high level of stretch require knit or spray backing to retain pattern consistency when stretched. -Sheer fabric requires knit backing or double covering to avoid undesired wrinkles in the fabric. Cushions: Keep in mind that your fabric, backed fabric or leather choice will greatly effect how a cushion will sit. Seat Cushion types -Spring /Down- Coil Springs in foam casing, wrapped in a down/feather envelope -Spring/ Dacron-Coil springs in foam casing, wrapped in a Dacron envelope -Blend down- soft down and feathers with a fiber filament added for body, similar in feel to down but has more spring back in filling out cushion. -50/50 White Goose down -Multilayer foam/Blend down - Different densities of foam layered together with a blend down wrap. Layers start soft and progress to firmer lower in cushion -Memory foam/Blend down- Memory foam with down wrap creates a cushion that is firm but keeps getting softer as you sit. Back Cushion types Blend down 50/50 White goose down Memory foam/Blend down Padding-Special padding request should be included in order packet
